Priyank Garg, Product Manager, Yahoo! Search - trumpeted in his blog that Yahoo! had rolled-out a Search Index Update last night. Priyank went on to say, "as usual, you may see some changes in ranking as well as some shuffling of the pages that are included in the index. Those who follow these updates may have noticed that they are occurring more frequently; this is the result of improvements to the indexing system."
Well 'ho-hum' and forgive us if we have a slight attack of the vapours over that bit of news. Yahoo! has to carry out a helluva' lot more "improvements to the indexing system" before it'll get our attention. When we at EASIserv.com see them still indexing known mirror sites that both Google and MSN rightly reject - we know that they've got a ways to go yet. But let's wish them well anyway and thanks for the heads-up Priyank. At least Yahoo! bother to tell us that they've had an update! But maybe that's because nobody might notice otherwise.
Any impact on EASIserv.com's main website in the SERPs? We improved with 5 keyword/phrases and went backwards with 7 others; but still have a strong Page 1 SERPs presence. No real complaints from us.

PS: He's at it again - 29th May 2006 Priyank announces another Yahoo! Search Index Update barely a month after the last one; this time he said, " We rolled out another index update late last week. You’ll see some changes in ranking along with what is in the index."
Well at EASIserv.com we noticed some recent changes in the Yahoo! Search Index results - but it would be hard for us to classify this as an update. As far as we can see they're running with an 'updated' index that looks about 6 months old. For one of the keyword phrases that we track: Yahoo! Search Index is showing 0.5 million less results than it was showing for the same keyword phrase in December 2005. And at position No.2 for that self-same keyword phrase it lists a piece of junk 'orphan' website that we threw together a year ago to do some testing on; hosted on a 'freebie' web host - whilst at the same time Yahoo! Search Index is relegating legitimate websites to much inferior positions for the same keyword phrase. Go figure.
