The importance of cross-browser testing and Firefox 3...

With so many browsers to choose from when you connect to the worldwide web it comes as no surprise to learn that each person often has a different preference when surfing the web. That’s why here in EASIserv.com Towers we make sure we stringently cross-browser test every one of our website designs in order to accommodate the largest compatible audience possible. Failing to test on any one of the major browsers (Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Opera, Safari) could leave a client potentially discriminating against a large chunk of their target audience - with resultant loss of on-line credibility.

Internet Explorer has long held the ‘browser of choice’ title, but hot on its heels these days is Mozilla Firefox. Such is Firefox’s growth in popularity that it is looking to break a world record for the most number of downloads of an application in a day - with the release of its latest browser Firefox 3. With the clamour of anticipation surrounding the browser's release - 1.6million are expected to download Firefox 3 in the first 24 hours of it becoming avaiable - with a likely out-turn of 5million downloads, according to a Mozilla representative.

For those of you who've been awaiting and anticipating during its gestation period - the long wait finally ended today, on Wednesday June 18th 2008, with the release of Firefox 3 taking place. Mozilla is encouraging everyone to get behind Firefox 3 - even encouraging them to host download parties and put Firefox download badges on websites and blogs. Here in EASIserv.com Towers we will try to moderate our celebrations a little, in order to remain completely unbiased towards any particular browser - and yes, we'll continue to follow our cross-browser test regime on Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari and now ... on Firefox 3 too!
