Leading local Northampton newspaper, The Northampton Chronicle & Echo ran a commentary piece today following chairman of London's Olympic organising committee, Sebastian Coe, unveiling of the "multimedia" brand image and logo for the London 2012 Olympic games.
In amongst other Chronicle comments regarding the suitability, or otherwise, of the 2012 logo and its value for money - was this snippet from EASIserv.com's very own Head of New Media Design.....
Graphic designer Neil McDermott, of New Duston-based EASIserv, has worked with bands, nightclubs and entrepreneurs to create successful logos and branding. He said, "I think the logo is confused and it really isn't clear when you first look at it what it is supposed to represent. I would have preferred a more traditional logo, like the one for Barcelona in 1992. It was really crisp and tidy; this one is a bit of a mess because you have to look at it for about 10 minutes to see it's supposed to say 2012. It doesn't give any idea of what London will bring to the Olympics or any flavour of the city. And £400,000 was a lot of money for what it is."
NB: The 2012 London Olympic logo has been developed by the London and New York based brand consultancy Wolff Olins and will be made available in four colours - pink, blue, green and orange. According to their own website - Wolff Olins are brand consultants who are in the 'reinvention' business. Let's hope that they don't have to 'reinvent' another 2012 logo, eh!
